The following is a list of PTA events that occur at the beginning of the school year.  Volunteers are asked to sign up to help run these events in May so we can organize them in August before school starts.

LUNCH ROOM VOLUNTEERS

Even though the first grade teachers take the children through the lunch lines at the start of school, there are lots of nervous children buying lunch at school for the first time. A few volunteers are needed for the first four days of school to help open milk, guide the children through the lunch lines, and help the teachers with their regular duties.

MEET THE BUSES

This event is fun for the parents and important for the children. Every year the bus numbers can change on the first day of school, a challenge to even veteran students. The chairperson for this event arranges a group to get together at the end of August to obtain bus routes from the Assistant Principal and create “bus tags” given to students in grades K-2. The volunteers then actually “meet the buses” as they drive up to the school on the first day and hand out the bus tags so the children can refer to them throughout the first weeks of school.

ORIENTATION NIGHT

Contact: Jennifer Tickell

This is an evening for the children and parents to catch a glimpse of their classroom assignment for the school year. It is held a few days before school starts. Customarily there are no teachers present, but a map of the teachers’ rooms is available that night.
Volunteers are needed to help photocopy the map and to meet and greet the families as they arrive on orientation night.
